A fast and fearsome battleship, the bireme was manned by 44 oarsmen working two banks of oars, The protruding bow was a useful tool for remaining enemy ships. Displayed here is a model of ocean sailing boat, it is designed after a relief picture of a double deck sailing boat, done in 50 B.C. and presently kept in Vatican Palace Museum. Rome and is made in proportiorally reduced size. It vividly represents the graceful image of ancient warship in 50 B.C.
